It indicates an imbalance in the lipid fractions of the blood.Elevated blood lipids are associated with CVD because they may cause atherosclerosis, hypertension, and if unchecked may lead to serious heart illness.

Dietary Management

  • Fats should provide less than 20% of the total calories and the calorie intake should be such as to maintain the ideal body weight
  • Oils which are rich in MUFA& PUFA should be used. Foods which have cholesterol such as egg yolk should be consumed twice in a week; organ meats such as liver, kidney and brain contain high amounts of cholesterol and should be avoided.
  • Use of sodium should be restricted in the diet.
